Special guest lectures: Nick Van Gilder and Isabelle Ampofo
I will be in Washington, DC for the annual meetings of the Council of Graduate Schools. Rather than posting a boring recording for the final lecture of the semester, I've recruited two engaging guest lecturers who will share a little of how they've used or plan to use some of the ideas and approaches we've covered this semester in their own research.
Nick will illustrate how population genetics can be used to gain insight into the evolutionary history of salamanders and how the insights can influence conservation decisions.
Isabelle will share how she plans to use genotypic and pedigree information to estimate breeding values and genetic components of variance to improve disease resistance in Pacific white shrimp.
Today's lecture won't be recorded. Please plan to attend so that you can see some real examples of how population genetics gets used in research.
