@AgroBioDiverse (via Jeffrey Ross-Ibarra (@lab_ri)) clued me into something I missed. Yesterday, September 29, was Dia nacional del maíz in Mexico.

Desde 2009 se celebra en México el Día Nacional del Maíz, el cultivo nacional por excelencia dada la historia de este producto que ha acompañado a la sociedad desde la época precolombina. (source)
The Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca held a symposium, and I'm sure there were other activities.

I wish I'd known about it before it occurred so that I could have helped to highlight the activities.1

1Not that plugging it on this blog would help much, but it couldn't hurt.
