| 1. | 4 short (about 800 words) paper assignments, each worth 15%. We will assign 5 papers, and drop your lowest grade if you hand-in all five. The fifth paper is intended to accomodate absences due to sickness or other events. In case of long term illness, make arrangements with the instructors. Late penalties will be applied. |
| 2. | Midterm test. 20% of the course grade. |
| 3. | Final exam: 20% of the course grade. |
Students are expected to attend class faithfully and participate in class discussions. Attendance and discussion will be considered in cases of borderline grades. Anyway, students who miss a lot of classes never do very well.
Study Guides: We will provide you with study questions for each of the course topics. These questions will Provide a basis for the homework and tests. Try to answer the study questions after you have done the reading and/or attended class, and ask about the questions that pose problems for you.
Tests: Tests will consist of a mixture of short answer questions, and one or two discussion questions. There are no make-up tests, except in cases of verified illnesses or family emergencies.
