The midterm will cover material from the beginning of class through the lecture on 2 October. The final will be comprehensive. Both will be administered as take-home exams, and you will be on your honor not to work together on the exams. The projects will involve reading and analysis of the primary literature and a 4--5 page written summary of your conclusions, and (in contrast to the exams) I encourage you to work together on them. Even though each of you will be graded individually on the projects, you are likely to find that discussing differences of opinion with your classmates will be a great help in clarifying your thinking. In addition to the graded exams and projects, I'll be making periodic homework assignments. These aren't to be handed in or graded, but exams will have questions on them similar to those encountered in the homework, and they'll be good practice in applying the concepts you'll need to know well for your projects.
