Genetic drift: mutation and migration
Today we'll first review the results from the lab exercise for last week and see what we can learn about effective population size from comparing the simulation results with theoretical expectations. Then we'll discuss how mutation and migration interact with genetic drift. I'll introduce a couple of very widely used models for understanding them, the infinite alleles model of mutation and the infinite island model of migration. This week's lab involves a simulation study of these models.
