Use this handout or the course web site as your sole source of information on schedule and instruction for EEB 245W. Read through it carefully to make sure you understand the assignments.
Submit all your work in computer-printed or typed form, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins and page numbers.
You must meet the deadlines on the attached schedule. We will deduct 10% of your grade for each late day; however, each person is entitled to 2 free late days (the first 2 used, no questions asked). Keep in mind that your final grade will be most affected by turning in your final draft late (because it is worth 45% of your total grade)
We will not accept assignments out of sequence. After we return work, we will post sheets outside our office doors where you can schedule an appointment. You may also e-mail your instructor to arrange an appointment. If you cannot make a scheduled meeting time, please e-mail or call to cancel and re-schedule.
You may turn in drafts directly to your instructor, or you may leave them with the secretary in TLS 312. If you leave a draft with the secretary, make sure you tell her that who it is for. If you do not, your draft may never reach us.
Hand in your final paper directly to your instructor. Include your e-mail address on the title page of your paper. If you do not receive an acknowledgment of your paper within two days, call or e-mail your instructor. If your instructor does not get a copy of your paper by 5:00PM, Tuesday, 12 December, your paper may not be graded before grades are due, and you will be assigned a grade of "Incomplete."
Keep a photocopy of anything you turn in, just in case something gets lost. If you use a computer, keep two copies of the work on separate disks.
Do not plagiarize. Plagiarism means quoting without quotation marks or without proper attribution, including doing so from another student's paper, or from a commercially available one. It also includes the use of someone else's ideas presented as your own, no matter how you say it. Of course, you will be discussing the ideas of others in your paper, but make sure that you cite the reference(s) for each idea in the text (see this example for instructions). The penalty for plagiarism on your W paper is a failing grade on the paper, which means a failing grade in the course as a whole (see next paragraph).
The grade you receive for your paper will represent one-quarter of your course grade in EEB 245. Note, however, that if you receive a failing grade on your W paper, you fail the entire course (4 credits) even if you have an A average on the exams. This is a University regulation and cannot be waived.
